Jan Melloy

I was bought up in London, have moved around the country and travelled afar, then came to rest in the Pennine hills about 18 years ago.

My workplaces have always been working with people, children and families. I have always been interested in the 'dynamic relationship'. A people watcher - noticing the dynamics between those in families, at work, at leisure and in relationships. I have struggled with all of these in my own life and along the way found mentors with whom, by sharing the feelings of fear, stuckness, hurt, thirst for adventure and peace I have been able to move on.

I have participated in and led many groups. These have been about information and skill sharing, awareness raising and personal growth. I have always been struck by the way the individual is changed by the interface of engaging with another. From group work I developed a keen interest in change for the individual and have been working around individual change as an independent worker since early 1990s.

I have been exploring the elements of coaching and change in my work as a manager, a supervisor, a trainer, a mentor, a counsellor and as a consultant for many years.

I see that life coaching has become a necessity because with social and geographical mobility many of the old style support systems have disappeared. No longer are our sisters down the road or our slippers by the fire and our lives are governed by choices and uncertainty. We are all out there pursuing our lives!

Coaching offers us a private place to reflect, the freedom to explore, to get some support, find insights, the opportunity to create balance and to find our direction. I have a client list of both individuals (not available), voluntary agencies, universities, statutory agencies and I am an associate of two independent businesses.

My qualifications are in social studies, in social work, supervision, an accredited counsellor, a practice teacher and a life coach.

I have my own practice offering a variety of professional services mainly to the social economy (voluntary, statutory and non profit sectors) and to individuals.

These include skills training, professional and clinical supervision, mentoring, coaching, action learning and personal development. My other interests apart from interaction with people are in furniture making, gardening, singing, walking and anything that is vaguely creative, hedonistic and fun.
